The C-8 Science Panel found a Probable Link between exposure to C-8 (PFOA) and six human diseases. This list of diseases was then presented to the C-8 Medical Panel, to make recommendations about a Medical Monitoring Program for Class Members. The Program began in 2013 to offer free screening tests to eligible Class Members to detect Probable Linked diseases.

THE C-8 MEDICAL PANEL HAS ISSUED NEW RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TESTING

The C-8 Medical Panel has reviewed the C-8 Medical Monitoring Program databases generated through the duration of the Program. Based on its latest review of the Program's medical records, the Panel found no new cases of the three most serious Probable Linked Diseases (ulcerative colitis, kidney cancer and testicular cancer). Based on these findings, the C-8 Medical Panel now recommends that periodic medical monitoring end and instead, that the Program provide medical monitoring for Class Members who are concerned that they have developed new or worrisome symptoms that could be related to ulcerative colitis, testicular cancer, or kidney cancer. Class Members who have never scheduled an initial screening appointment will still be provided with an initial appointment and a C-8 (PFOA) blood test free of charge. Class Members may make an appointment for a medical evaluation for new or worrisome symptoms that could be related to ulcerative colitis, testicular cancer, or kidney cancer with a physician who is a participating health care provider in the Program or with a physician of their choice.

The C-8 Medical Panel has also recommended that medical monitoring for preeclampsia, increased serum cholesterol, and thyroid dysfunction be discontinued because screening for preeclampsia and increased cholesterol are now standard medical practice and do not need to be monitored by the Program. In addition, the Panel recommends against continuing to monitor periodically for thyroid dysfunction due to the low Program participation and yield.
